Qatar Airways Cargo digitizes the ramp with a real-time monitoring tool

Qatar Airways Cargo is launching a very concrete operational transformation project: the company is implementing a ramp digitalization program aimed at eliminating paper processes in loading/unloading operations, with a goal of traceability and measurable performance on rotations.

At the heart of the system, a module called ROLS (Ramp Offload and Load Supervision) replaces paper loading instruction reports with a complete digital flow. The company highlights several operational gains: real-time transmission to “Load Control,” enhanced checks, and above all, 100% reconciliation of ULDs, a key point in execution quality and the reduction of disputes (missing items, loading plan errors, seal/position discrepancies).

The program also introduces features that reflect an “industry” approach to the ramp: instant loading confirmations, QR scanning, SLA tracking, and operational incident prevention devices (including tail tipping prevention). From a business perspective, the digitalization of the ramp touches a direct lever: turnaround time. Less uncertainty on the ground potentially means more rotations, better fleet/crew utilization, and a reduction in hidden costs related to delays and rechecks.

For freight forwarders and shippers, the message is clear: the battle is no longer solely about capacity, but about processing quality and visibility. As markets become more volatile, operators capable of continuously documenting execution gain a commercial advantage — and strengthen their pricing power on premium services.
