London Gateway crosses 3 million TEU in 2025

The British port London Gateway has just sent a strong signal to the European market: in 2025, it exceeded the 3 million TEU mark, with a spectacular increase of 52% over one year, according to DP World. This performance corresponds to the first full year of operation of the fourth 100% electric berth, a central element in the terminal’s capacity expansion strategy.
DP World also attributes this dynamic to the arrival of new stops on the Asia–Europe axis, particularly thru rotations related to the Gemini cooperation (Maersk–Hapag-Lloyd). Result: the group is consolidating its footprint in the UK, as its Southampton terminal has also exceeded 2 million TEU over the year. Together, the two sites exceed 5 million TEUs, reinforcing DP World’s stated ambition: to become the country’s leading containerized gateway.
Behind the scenes, the battle for Britain’s “crown port” is intensifying. DP World is clearly aiming to catch up with Felixstowe, the current leader, while accelerating a £1 billion investment plan: two new electric berths are already under construction, and a second rail terminal has been commissioned. The message is clear: capacity, electrification and rail are becoming the levers to win the next phase of growth.
